What we’re looking forward to in 2019

With lots of growth, new clients, awesome events, partnering with amazing organizations, working with the best creatives and making plenty of mistakes; 2018 was an exciting year for us here at the Downtown Greensburg Project. But it’s time to focus on a new year and we want to tell you what we’re looking forward to in Greensburg for 2019 and a little sneak peak into what we have planned.

WHAT WE HAVE PLANNED FOR 2019

We always have ideas and things we want to do each year (doesn’t everyone) and sometimes we just run out of time to make them a reality. Well in 2019 we have planned a lot and it’s going to be a crazy year! So here’s some things we have in the works.

Website Revamp – Whenever we finish the rebuild it will be up…

So as some of you might know, we build websites and build brands for our real life job for a variety of clients so it’s only right that we make our own better. So we will be going through a rebrand and website revamp in the beginning of 2019. Some exciting additions we have in the works for the new site include more news & blogs, a revamped community event calendar, parking info with a parking map, business and organization directory, volunteer opportunities page and a few more things that we are keeping to ourselves. Have something you want to see on our website? Shoot us an email! hello@downtowngreensburgpa.us

Parklet Cleanup – Late Spring 2019

When we lived in downtown Greensburg for a few years we lived across the street from the parklet on South Pennsylvania Avenue. For years we’ve loved that little park and wanted to see it refreshed and usable! So last summer we had a group of wonderful volunteers who donated their time, money and supplies to freshen up the space. We’ll be doing it again so it’s ready for the summer so keep a lookout for info!

Yoga Under the Stars – Summer 2019

Last year we hosted our first Yoga Under the Stars classes on top of the Bell Parking Garage in downtown Greensburg and we got a great response! So we’re bringing it back! We are still working on dates but we’re hoping to have 4-5 classes this summer!

Night Markets – Summer 2019

We’ve had the idea to do a vendor market for awhile and this is the summer it is finally going to happen! A mix of farmers, trendy boutiques, local artists and even some brewers mixed in, we’re bringing you some fresh vendors to shop at! We will be taking vendor applications once more information is announced so if you’d like to be a part of our Night Markets, sign up for the Vendor Email List.

Greensburg Yoga Festival – June 2019

With so many great yoga studios in our area and the increased interest in health and wellness we are producing a new event this year! The Greensburg Yoga Festival will be a one day event celebrating everything dealing with yoga, holistic practice and wellness! We working hard to bring you more information and a solid date but are still working out details. Be the first to find out by signing up for the Greensburg Yoga Festival email list.

Luminary Night – December 2019

2018 was the first time we were able to help plan Luminary Night and we’ll be planning it again in 2019! We have lots of ideas and changes from last year’s event that will make the 50th year (yes it’s been going on for 50 years!) a wonderful family and community event in downtown Greensburg.

Events + Happenings We’re Looking Forward To

Party at the Palace – February 23

One of the most fun events of the year is back and this time with a Vegas twist! The Westmoreland Cultural Trust always puts on a heck of a party filled with performances and delicious food in a transformed Palace Theatre. This year they’re taking it to new level with casino games, VIP bottle service and even a chapel that you can get married at! Seriously you can get married there for real (or not for real.) VIP and General Admission tickets are on sale now so don’t miss out and support the Westmoreland Cultural Trust! More info. Facebook Event.

Mammoth Beer Mile & 5K – March 23

In its 4th year the Mammoth Beer Mile & 5k, produced by Flat Tire Co. Bike Shop is going to be bigger than ever! A fundraiser for the Rotary Club of Westmoreland this fun event hosted at the Westmoreland County Fairgrounds is a day of fitness and beer! With options of running the 5k (no beer during this run) or competing in the beer mile solo or as a relay, there is something for everyone to do! Even if you just want to watch and attend the after party with food trucks, yard games, live music and a photo booth from Moxie Events! Registration is now open so give them a like on Facebook and a follow on Instagram.

Greensburg ArtsWalk – April 27

The Greensburg ArtsWalk is back for its second year and we are so excited! Last year downtown Greensburg was filled with people all celebrating art and the many forms it takes. From live performances in music and dance to live art demonstrations to the Westmoreland Museum of American Art’s Art Happens installations and the Westmoreland Cultural Trust’s Art in the Alley; the ArtsWalk is sure to become a feature event in Greensburg! Planning has begun and more information will be released as we get closer to April. Make sure to let organizers know your interested on their Facebook Event.

Invisible Man Brewing Opening – Spring 2019

So we announced that there was a brewery opening in downtown Greensburg back in September. Well it’s getting closer and while we can’t release their location just yet we are excited to see how a brewery will impact our downtown. It is well known that having a brewery in a downtown area increases foot traffic, creates a community hub and encourages businesses to stay open later or for new ones to open. It will be interesting to see how that happens in Greensburg! Want to give some of their beer a try before they open? Hugo’s Taproom will occasionally have tastings of Invisible Man’s newest release, so make sure to give them a like on Facebook. Invisible Man Brewing Facebook & Instagram

Greensburg Music Fest – September 2019

Last year was the inaugural year for the Downtown Greensburg Music Fest which filled the town with a variety of music in different venues throughout the downtown. We had a ton of fun watching the performers and the community enjoying the event. The date and information isn’t out yet for 2019’s event but don’t worry, the second we find out we’ll be letting you know!

Greensburg Craft Beer Week – September 2019

The list wouldn’t be complete without the biggest event the DGP produces! Last year we had 45 events spread out over 9 days all celebrating craft beer and the Greensburg community. We are in very beginning planning stages of Greensburg Craft Beer Week for 2019 and we can’t wait to get things together! Home Brew + Chill and Brewers Double Dare, our signature events for the week, will be back and even better than last year! Give the event a like on Facebook and a follow on Instagram.

Big Art Party – October 2019

We love a good party and the Westmoreland Museum of American Art puts on one of the best in the area every year! Each year they big a theme and transform the Museum into an immersive experience with plenty of entertainment, food and drinks! The date and info hasn’t been released for 2019 yet but we’ll be sure to give you all the important info when it’s announced!
