Utilizing a broad range of materials—toothpicks, packing materials, found objects, reclaimed steel and wood, synthetic hair, recycled lithographed metal, credit card solicitations, old drawings, electronics—and assemblage techniques, these works of art show that creative re-use can produce surprising results.
The Big Art Party is Here!
There are parties and events throughout the year in the Greensburg area and many benefiting wonderful organizations and causes. One of the ones we look forward to every year is The Westmoreland Museum of American Art’s Big Art Party, and it’s only a day away!
This year’s event on Saturday, October 20 from 6-11pm, is sure to make non attendees green with envy as the Big Art Party Goes Green in celebration of art and nature.
Begin your evening before you even get there by dressing in green or creating your own fashionable outfit with reusable or recycled materials! You’ll be able to enter to win the best “repurposed or recycled” party outfit contest at the party! Once at the exclusive VIP party grab a specialty cocktail at the open bar, some delicious food and enjoy entertainment by Anqwenique & The Ensemble!
After taking a look at all the silent auction items, where proceeds benefit The Westmoreland exhibition and education programs, it’s time to really party! Celebrate Mother Earth with performances by KUUMBA, Inc., the Junk Rock Band and Jim Donovan & The Sun King Warriors, plus take part in activities by The Center for Creative Reuse and Artists Image Resource. Enjoy bites from local restaurants and vendors along with a cash bar plus many surprises and excitement all night long!
Not only that but the Robert Shaw Gallery will be hosting the new “The Art of Re-Use” exhibition which features works by artists who incorporate recycled, up-cycled or re-purposed materials into their art.
Inspired by the theme of this year’s Big Art Party Goes Green, these artists address sustainability and environmental issues by incorporating recycled, upcycled or re-purposed materials into their creative work and practice. This exhibition features 18 works by 13 artists, all from around this region.
