4 Essential Ice Cream Shops in Greensburg

It’s finally the season for sticky fingers and shakes. For those that want to stray away from the typical frozen dessert chains, these are the most buzzworthy ice cream shops in Greensburg worth seeking out and what to order when you get there!

McFeely’s Gourmet Chocolate

One of Greensburg’s newest shops, McFeely’s Gourmet Chocolate also offers delicious flavors of Perry’s ice cream throughout the year! Right on the corner of S. PA Ave and Pittsburgh St. McFeely’s is the perfect location to swing by during your lunch break for a scoop or two! Grab a cone (and maybe some of their delectable homemade chocolate) and walk to the parklet further down the street to enjoy the beautiful summer weather in the shade under the trees! You may also see them at events and in neighborhoods throughout the county as they have an Ice Cream Truck, an Arctic Ice Truck and a Novelty Ice Cream Man!

Our must have item: Movie Time a Buttered Popcorn Ice Cream

Hours:
Monday-Saturday: 10am-5pm
Closed Sundays

Tastyland

Ahh, Tastyland. What a great Greensburg classic with a bit of a cult following! Located on Route 66, this family drive in has been around since 1950 serving up soft serve, low fat lactose free vanilla dole whip, plus some of the best, bad for you but perfect with a milkshake, hot food. Tastyland has weekly specialty flavors and items they post the beginning of each month along with a Milkshake ‘happy hour’ with shakes being 1/2 off from 2-4pm Monday-Friday and they even have ice cream treats for the pups! So stop by Tastyland, they get busy so expect a wait, and don’t forget to say hi to the chickens!

Our must have item: Double Burger with a Chocolate Shake

Hours:
Sunday: 12 noon to 10:00 pm
Monday – Saturday: 11:00 am to 10:00 pm
Kitchen closes 1/2 hour prior to closing time

The Meadow’s Frozen Custard

Fans of this fresh-made custard had to wait a year for it to reopen after a fire stopped operations in January of 2017. Custard is 40% lower in butterfat than other ice creams, making the frozen treat denser and more creamy than your typical ice cream. Offering up cones, cups, pints, sundaes, shakes, classic favorites and even frozen yogurt, The Meadow’s has plenty of options at their location on Mount Pleasant St. Their flavors of the day have the community lining up for their favorites so prepare to wait in line for a while (it’s one of our favorite date night ideas, chat while you wait!) but it is well worth it!

Our must have item: Dirty Turtle or an Arctic Swirl (our favorite is peanut butter cup and cookie dough pieces added!)

Hours: Everyday of the week 11am-10pm

Bubba’s Takeout

Usually Bubba’s Takeout is known for it’s delicious Polish dishes like pierogies and halushki, but during the summer months, they carry Perry’s Ice Cream and offer a wide variety of flavors! Located on N. Westmoreland Ave. Bubba’s is a tucked away spot to cool off this summer with a few scoops!

Our must have item: A scoop of Pistachio Nut and a scoop of Cannoli

Hours:
Monday-Thursday: 10:30am-9:00pm
Friday-Saturday: 10:30am-10:30pm
Sunday: 12pm-9pm

Love the list! Frosty Shack in Fort Allen needs a shout out. They are fantastic, as well. Gotta love those small, privately-owned, cash-only sort of ice cream stops. The raspberry ice cream is fantastic!

Of the four mentioned Tastyland is by far the best. Bill and Mary Kuhn’s are great people and have established themselves as the best and friendliest.
