Film Series: Pioneers of African American Cinema

In conjunction with African American Art in the 20th Century, The Westmoreland presents a first-ever film series featuring works by the unsung pioneers of early African American Cinema. After each film, stay and join in on the conversation with a facilitated discussion. Ken Nicholson, Film Studies and Art Instructor at University of Pitt-Greensburg and Westmoreland County Community College, will be facilitating the film series.

Positive Sibling Relationships

Sibling relationships are one of our longest and a powerful influence on who we become. In this workshop at The Greensburg Hempfield Area Library, we will discuss techniques to foster healthy lifelong sibling bonds. We will also learn techniques on how to address, and reduce, sibling rivalry, at any age.  A $5 donation is requested but not required. Snacks will be provided and child care in an a joining room will be available.

Bring your pup and join us for good beers, good dogs and good times on Friday, February 29 at Petagogy Greensburg! From 6:00 to 8:00 pm enjoy free beer from Invisible Man Brewing–for the humans–and free Brewscuits–treats made from spent brewing grains in Telford, PA–for the dogs!  Our guest bartenders for the evening will be from Cross Your Paws Rescue, a foster-based rescue located in Irwin, PA whose mission is to end homelessness for all pets. Cross Your Paws’ animals are vetted, spayed/neutered and then placed in loving forever homes. We will donate 10% of all sales made during the event to this PAWsome organization!

Friday Evening Music Club

Celebrating 75 years of music-making, the Friday Evening Music Club, draws area performers and audience for shared artistic programs and camaraderie, and encourages excellence in young musicians through performance and scholarship. Free and open to the public at Pitt Greensburg, the club also graciously accepts donations at the door.

On February 29, “leap” into volunteering at the Westmoreland Historical Society and Historic Hanna’s Town at our volunteer open house. Stop by the Westmoreland History Education Center at Historic Hanna’s Town from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to learn about our nonprofit organization and the exciting activities going on in 2020.

In this workshop, we will tap into our creativity and possibility to envision our ideal future and self. A board acts as an illustration reminder to who you are and what you represent- even helping us to build our own futures. This of your vision board as a tool that will guide you along your life path.

Greensburg company # 6 and Company # 7 have teamed up to do a cash bash located at station seven. Tickets are now available for $20 per ticket. Doors open at 4 PM.

Annual Chess Tournament

Junior Division: Grades K-4, Senior Division: Grades 5-8. You may begin to arrive at GHAL at 9 a.m. to complete registration and for practice play. The tournament begins at 9:30 a.m. and play will continue until all participants have played 5 rounds. 1st and 2nd place in both divisions will receive a trophy. Community Da: Pop-Op-Apalooza

The Westmoreland, in collaboration with The Andy Warhol Museum, presents a special day celebrating all things Pop and Op. The Warhol Museum Education Team will present a variety of their most popular art activities, including screen printing, blotted line, rubber stamping and make-your-own screen test.
