Summer in the City event this weekend to kick off the season

Summer in the City, hosted by Shop Greensburg (GPBA), Greensburg Community Development Corporation (GCDC), and The Downtown Greensburg Project (DGP) will be taking place from June 24th to the 27th in Downtown Greensburg.

Summer in the City is a celebration of life in Greensburg with free events for all age groups to enjoy and participate in. There is no registration required for the event.  The primary location of Summer in the City is the Pitt/Penn parking lot located on South Pennsylvania Avenue. This is an opportunity to come together as a community and support one another after what’s been a difficult year, so please join us in celebrating the resiliency of the City of Greensburg! There will be activities for everyone to enjoy, including our furry friends!

The event will kick off Thursday night with the Greensburg Night Market, produced by The Downtown Greensburg Project, 45 vendors will be set up along South Pennsylvania Avenue behind the county courthouse. Local businesses will be extending their hours until 8 p.m. for sidewalk sales on Thursday evening in conjunction with the market.

The events for Friday will begin at 5:30 p.m. and conclude at 9 p.m. in the Pitt/Penn parking lot. The activities on Friday include a Stage Right Performance, an ice cream social with treats from Main Street Sweets and McFeely’s Gourmet Chocolate, balloon twisting entertainment by Faerie Grace, a dunking booth, raffles, and a Pittsburgh based vocal duo, Daryl and Kim.

The kickoff event for Saturday’s festivities will begin at 10:30 at Petagogy with a Summer in the City Pet Parade. The first 100 participants will receive a swag bag sponsored by Petagogy and Cattfeinated Cat Café that will be filled with treats, coupons, and more. The Pet Parade will start at Petagogy and will end at the parklet located on S. Pennsylvania Avenue where there will be doggy pools, a photo booth, and a tie dying station for pet bandanas.

Following the Pet Parade, the events in the Pitt/Penn parking lot will begin at 11:00 am and run until 5 p.m. Events for the rest of the day include balloon entertainment, air brush tattoos, caricatures, a gem dig, a princess performance from Stage Right, dunking booth, street drawing contest sponsored by Green Beacon Gallery, and music from DJ Georgeo Recelli of “Georgeo’s Oldies Café.” There will be various food trucks throughout the day and happy hours at participating local restaurants. Attendees with also be able to dunk some local favorites in the dunk booth.

The Summer in the City Celebration will conclude with Sundays on Pittsburgh Street from 2 – 6 p.m. in the WIB Albright Lot on W. Pittsburgh Street produced by the Downtown Greensburg Project with the Green Beacon Gallery, Invisible Man Brewing and Hugo’s Taproom. Stop by to relax with friends with food trucks, Just Roll’d Up, Midwest Smoki’n BBQ, and Elegant Catering, live music with Josh Jams and Bad Dog Revolution, yard games and an outdoor bar!
