Rainy Day Activities for Kids in Greensburg

Westmoreland Museum of Art

Spending a rainy day and in an art museum sounds like the start of a movie! This rainy day activity can be educational while staying dry. Adventure to the Museum’s website and check out their list of current and upcoming exhibitions for a go-to rainy day activity for any time of the year! They now have a Center for Creative Connections, a hands-on activity center for all ages, bringing the art on display to life! Current activities offered in the Center include: an opportunity to create landscape layouts to explore how areas within southwestern Pennsylvania developed, a build-a-bridge activity that challenges you to build some of Pittsburgh’s common bridge styles, and a stop-motion animation activity that allows artwork come alive by animating a selection of backgrounds and characters from the paintings. There’s even a large drawing glass that encourages all who use it to be an artist and create fun, full-length portraits of your friends and family. They just recently installed sensory windows with sea scenes in the Center as well.

Seabase Family Fun Center

There is no place better to run off some energy than at Seabase! Bring the kids to Seabase where the jungle gym, laser tag, an arcade, train rides, and a laser maze awaits you on a rainy day. Makes this a great option to provide the activity kids need while the weather is less than perfect!

The Greensburg Art Center

Another great rainy day option for the artistic minds is to see an exhibition, and take a class or a workshop at the Greensburg Art Center! If your kiddos are more advanced in their art interests this is the place for them! They can explore and enjoy all different mediums of art while staying dry!

Greensburg Hempfield Public Library

What’s better on a rainy day than curling up and reading a good book! Greensburg Hempfield Public Library have a large children’s section with reading options for all reading levels! GHAL has multiple programs throughout the week for kids of all ages to attend for free. From learning code to science experiments to traveling to another time via book take advantage of the rainy weather!

Pottery Playhouse

After you’ve explored a wide range of art at the museum, make your way down to paint pottery at Pottery Playhouse! They have a ton of pottery options to choose from and it’s fun for the whole family! It’s the perfect opportunity to extend your rainy days of fun! On Tuesdays, you can paint 2 pieces or have two people paint and save 20%. They are open from 11am -5pm on Tuesdays. This is perfect for all ages, who love to paint!

60 Minute Missions

Two words: Escape Room! Greensburg’s escape room is the perfect way to get the whole family involved on a rainy day! You can choose your room theme from the ones they have available. For the Nancy Drew or Hardy Boys fans of the family, they will love trying to find the hidden clues in order to escape within the time frame! Children of the age of 10 and older are able to perform very well in the escape rooms, but if you plan on bringing children younger than 10, they request that you book a private game session.
