Local photographer to have signing of Westmoreland 250 poster at Art on Tap

Alex Newill will be recognized on Friday at the Westmoreland Museum of American Art during their Art on Tap: Art After Dark event. The event will take place on Friday, October 20 from 5 pm to 7 pm. Westmoreland 250 and Westmoreland Heritage at Art on Tap will be unveiling  their collectable poster “Portals of Westmoreland.” Alex, the poster’s photographer, will be on site to sign posters and meet guests.

Alex got his start in photography 2019 in his home state of Alabama when he was frequently visiting a car club. The club members started paying a photographer to take pictures of the cars and he was intrigued by the photography process. Alex decided to start saving money to eventually buy his first camera from a pawn shop that November. He started by taking pictures of cars and the rest is history!

He moved to Western Pennsylvania in 2022 where the Downtown Greensburg Project saw him shooting at a Greensburg Night Market. They loved his work and immediately hired him to photograph their events.

He ended up working on the Westmoreland 250th project by chance. There was originally another photographer working on the project who eventually dropped out and the project was almost canceled until someone recommended Alex for the project. He likes to photograph buildings and historical elements around town in his free time, so he was a perfect fit for this project!

Alex loves to take photos of wildlife, nature, and landscapes. His biggest dream is to move out west to explore and photograph the beautiful deserts and mountains.

You might recognize Alex’s work from social media as he is the official photographer of the Downtown Greensburg Project and the Greensburg Night Market. He can be seen during Night Market photographing vendors and their products, capturing shots of delicious food and grabbing photos of smiles in the crowd! He has photographed numerous events around town and has even spent time shooting motorsports events around the southeast.

Take the time to check out Alex’s website, Instagram, and Facebook. He also sells prints of many of his photos through his website.
