The City of Greensburg Recreation Department has released their Spring 2021 programs and there is so much to do for kids of all ages! Sign ups are now open for the programs and close depending on the program.
Soccer Tots
Open to children ages 2-4, this program helps introduce young children to the wide world of soccer! This program will be comprised of 8 sessions lasting 45 minutes each. They will be on Saturday mornings from 10AM to 10:45AM, tentatively beginning April 3. During each session, there will be 3-4 stations set up for each kid to rotate through and practice some soccer skills. We will have stations with soccer goals to shoot the ball into, obstacle courses, relay races, and much more! Parents are encouraged to participate with their little athlete, but we are asking that all participating parents wear a mask. Young players will receive a t-shirt for participating! Cost of the program is $35 for Greensburg Salem School District Residents and $45 for Non-Residents. Registration for this program closes March 12th.
In-House Soccer
Open to kids who are ages 4-9 with available groups in U6, U8, and U10, this program provides the opportunity for players to get used to the game of soccer. Most teams will practice once a week (U10 may have an additional practice day) and one game per week on Saturdays. All registered players will be put into teams. All teams will practice with each other, but will play against each other on game day. Since this program is in-house, parents will not have to worry about traveling to different fields – all practices and games will be played in the same place! All players will receive two jerseys for their uniform. Cost of the program is $50 for Greensburg Salem School District Residents and $60 for Non-Residents. Registration for this program closes March 12th.
Travel Soccer
New to our offerings in Spring 2021, this program is open to kids from age 10 to 18! Teams will be formed and registered through PA West Soccer Association. We will offer the following age groups: U12 (for boys and girls), U14 (for boys), U15 (for girls), and U19 (for boys and girls)We will be playing against local teams in PA West. Each team will practice 2 times per week, and games will run from the end of March until the end of May. Included in the cost of the program is a uniform, complete with a jersey, shorts, socks, and shin guards. Cost of the program is $120 for Greensburg Salem School District Residents and $130 for Non-Residents. Registration will close on February 19th, so sign up soon!
After School Program
Open to children in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade, this program is on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30pm to 6pm in the Kirk S. Nevin Arena (meeting room). There will be two spring sessions available: March 9th through April 1st and April 6th through April 29th. Each session will have homework help, ice skating (when available), recreation activities and games, fun crafts, S.T.E.A.M. activities, and much more! The City of Greensburg Recreation Department has partnered with the Greensburg-Hempfield Library to provide all participants with library books, fun and interactive technology, and fun learning activities! Cost of the program is $60 for Greensburg Salem School District Residents and $65 for Non-Residents. Registration for this program ends on March 9th.
Speed & Agility
Open to children in grades Kindergarten through 6th grade, this program is suitable for ALL athletes, regardless of skill level! The program will run on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5pm to 6pm at Lynch Field, from May 3rd through May 26th. Each session will include a general, group-based warm-up and cool down. All participants will be divided into groups after the warm-up, and then will rotate through 3 to 4 stations of varying activities. Some activities may include relay races, tire flipping, cone drills, and much more! After the hour of stations, any football players who would like to stay after can do so to work on football-specific skills and drills with the coaches. Cost of the program is $10 for Greensburg Salem School District Residents and $15 for Non-Residents. Registration ends on May 3rd.
Youth Kickball
Open to children ages 12 and under! This program will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 5:30pm to 6:30pm at Lynch Field, running May 4th through May 25th. Participants just show up for a full hour of kickball each daily session – no equipment required! Player captains will be chosen to pick teams each week, and both teams will face off in a fun game of kickball! No score will be kept, and we will follow the traditional rules of play. Don’t worry if your player doesn’t know how to play – we will teach them as we go! This is a great introductory program to the wide world of sports, and we try our absolute best to teach each player good sportsmanship and to keep the game as much fun as possible! Cost of this program is $15 for Greensburg Salem School District Residents and $20 for Non-Residents. Registration closes May 4th.
Community Backyard Games
This free program is open to all ages, and no pre-registration is required! Spanning 4 Fridays in April and May, kids can meet up at Lynch Field to play traditional groups games. For week 1, we will play Ships and Sailors. We will play Hide ‘N Seek Tag on week 2, and Red Rover on week 3. We will finish up on week 4 with a game of Cops and Robbers. Children are not required to wear a mask while playing, but definitely can if they would like! Social distancing and COVID regulations will be observed by spacing out the playing field, providing sanitizing wipes for equipment and hand sanitizer for each player’s use, and by using equipment, like pool noodles, to avoid contact between players!
Greater Greensburg Athletics’ Baseball & Softball
Now a new partnership between the City of Greensburg, South Greensburg Borough, and Southwest Greensburg Borough! Open to kids ages 4-18, We offer the following for baseball: teeball, 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U, and 18U. Teeball through 10U will have practices and games at the Western Avenue and Huff Avenue ballfields in South Greensburg. 12U to 18U teams will have practices and games at Shuster Field and Field 2 in the Lynch Field Complex. We offer the following for softball: 8U, 10U, 12U, 15U, and 18U. All softball teams will practice and play games at the Red Devils Fields in Southwest Greensburg. Cost of the program is $65 for Greensburg Salem School District Residents and $75 for Non-Residents. Registration closes March 17th.
