Greensburg Photography Walk

Looking for great content for a photo shoot or looking to enhance your photography skills? The Westmoreland Photographers Society (WPS) will be hosting a photographic tour of downtown Greensburg on Saturday, July 14. Accompanied by a representative of the Westmoreland County Historical Society, attendees will have the chance to learn about the architecture and history of the city. There will be two interior tours of both The Palace Theatre and Blessed Sacrament Cathedral as well!

WPS aims to promote an interest in the art and science of photography. Its members, which are composed of both amateur and professional photographers, are constantly encouraged to share their work as well as their experiences and distinct knowledge. WPS is hoping the walk provides its 60 members along with 30 non-members the chance to learn new and exciting things about Greensburg along with great chances to snap some awesome photos.

The walk is projected to last about six hours encompassing some steep hills and a total distance of approximately two miles. Attendees should meet at 9:00am in front of The Palace Theatre at 21 West Otterman Street, Greensburg, PA 15601. This walk will be free and open to the public, but registration is limited to thirty non-members on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Non-members can register here.

This walk can be the stepping stone for those interested in photography and become a WPS member! Individuals do not need any particular skills to get involved. Memberships cost only $25 per year and include various activities such as workshops, classes, exhibitions and much more. A beginner’s photography class is also offered which starts off by focusing on the basics of photography and becoming comfortable with a camera.

WPS desires to serve the needs of the community in addition to its members. Recently, WPS began a collaboration with Westmoreland Heritage (WH) which is a non-profit advocacy organization that promotes the history and culture of the county. As a result of the collaboration, WPS provides WH photographers for several of their partner organizations. For example, WPS members recently provided photography services for the McFeely-Rogers Foundation at the Mister Rogers Family Day in Latrobe.

Keep an eye out for future WPS events! The organization’s next photo walk will take place on August 19 at McConnell’s Mill and Moraine State Parks. Additionally, the next WPS photo exhibition is being held at the Greensburg Garden and Civic Center during the month of September. An opening reception for the exhibition is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, September 5, 2018.
