It’s Back! Greensburg Craft Beer Week scheduled for September 20-28

Planning has already begun for the 3rd annual Greensburg Craft Beer Week, scheduled for September 20-28 with events happening throughout the greater Greensburg area.

More participation from local bars, restaurants, breweries and organizations is expected for the third year. New breweries, New Crescent Brewing Co. (Irwin), Invisible Man Brewing (Greensburg opening this summer) and Devout Brewing (Export) are looking to participate for the first time and the Westmoreland Cultural Trust, The Westmoreland Museum of American Art and The Lamplighter (Delmont) are looking to plan craft beer centric events for the community during the week.

“With more breweries opening and more interest in participating, the week is expanding further into other areas,” said Jessica Hickey, Director of Greensburg Craft Beer Week. “We’re expecting to have a couple of events in Irwin since there are 4 breweries in close proximity and in Delmont we’ve had a few businesses have interest along with Yellow Bridge Brewing Co. being located there.”

Last year, 45 were on the schedule and ranged from the signature events, Home Brew + Chill and Brewers Double Dare, to non profit fundraisers, to beer pairings, to scavenger hunts and various beer tastings. This year, coming up with well curated events craft beer drinkers will enjoy is the goal for the year.

“We had a lot of events last year,” said Hickey. “This year we really want to make sure every event on the schedule is really well done and unique.”

Back for a second year will be GBGCBW’s signature events, Home Brew + Chill (HBC) and Brewers Double Dare. HBC will be held on September 22 at All Saints Brewing Company and will consist of 25+ home brewers competing for the best beer at the event with food trucks, live music from Josh Corcoran of Spare Change, a photo booth experience from Moxie Events and a VIP hour with a collaboration beer tasting will round it out. VIP ($50) and General Admission ($35) tickets will go on sale on June 1 on the GBGCBW website. Brewers Double Dare, a throwback event to the popular Nickelodeon TV show ‘Double Dare’ will be a fun spectator event to end out the week on September 29 at All Saints Brewery. 6 breweries will compete by answering trivia and attempting messy physical challenges before the final 2 breweries slip and slide through the obstacle course to determine the winner.

“Our signature events were so much fun and well attended,” said Hickey. “We can’t wait to bring them back and make them even better than last year. We have a lot of exciting things planned for this year.”

This year the collaboration beers will be done a little bit differently. Two breweries will be randomly paired up to create a beer specifically for the week. They will also be given a mystery ingredient that must be added into their beer. All of the 2019 collaboration beers will be sampled at Home Brew + Chill during the VIP hour.

More information about this year’s events will be released on the Greensburg Craft Beer Week website, www.greensburgcraftbeerweek.com, on August 19, 2019. Sponsorship information is currently available on the site and by emailing greensburgcbw@gmail.com.
