Green Beacon Gallery adds non-profit element to encourage more art and music in Greensburg

Downtown Greensburg’s Green Beacon Gallery has recently stepped into the non-profit sector with a new organization: Growing Better Greensburg. This effort will offer opportunities to local artists on a grassroots level which will allow arts and music to flourish in the community.

Their board currently exists with Steve Harrold as President, Phil Harrold as Executive Director, Sam Evergreen as Secretary, Jessa Winas as Treasurer, and the following individuals as Directors: Joshua Paulsen, Alexis Pezzelle, Marley Shawley, Zach Wurm, and Sam Steele.

Growing Better Greensburg strongly values supporting local creators and projects. They wanted to start this endeavor because they saw a lack of funding organizations that were truly helping offer opportunities and projects to local artists and musicians. Furthermore, they see this as an opportunity to physically bring people together in the community because “the realest sense of community sprouts from roots made by residents caring about what their city looks like, sounds like and feels like. Enabling the arts is a great way to achieve that! If Greensburg’s going to grow better, you have to start at the roots” said Phil Harrold. This organization grew from the efforts of the Green Beacon Gallery, which allowed the team to see the great amount of potential available in Greensburg.

Harrold said their vision is to “help bring about a new era where this city evolves into a cultural epicenter for the surrounding communities and beyond”. In addition to this non-profit initiative, the Green Beacon will be providing regular performance & exhibition opportunities that will not only nourish the local talent, but also encourage and attract those from other areas.

There is a lot of talent to be found in Greensburg and Growing Better Greensburg is giving them a platform and space to bloom and flourish. Expect to see Growing Better Greensburg around the community as they match the right grant funding to the right mural project, concert or community activity.

The Green Beacon Gallery is located at 235 W Pittsburgh St, Greensburg, PA 15601. Their hours are Thurs 1-7, Fri 12-8, and Sat 12-6. Check out their Facebook page for information on all their fun upcoming events!
