Downtown Greensburg Project celebrates 4 years

It’s hard to believe that its been 4 years since we started the Downtown Greensburg Project. We evolved a lot, done a lot of fun things and learned so much about our community.

Some of you may not know how DGP started or why we decided to advocate for our area so much. In the summer of 2015, founders Jessica Hickey and Ashley Reefer were living on S. PA Ave in downtown Greensburg and worked part time for a store on the 100 block. Being in their mid 20s they wanted to be involved in the community and make a difference. They joined a couple organizations in hopes of giving their input, helping out the organization and hopefully help push Greensburg forward. Unfortunately, that organization, which has since dissolved, wasn’t as keen on having a couple 20 somethings giving ideas. So they decided they would do it on their own. The Downtown Greensburg Project was created in June of 2015 with the idea to promote local businesses, have a website with a business directory, event listings, parking information and news available for the community. We never thought of how it would change and grow. DGP is now run by Jessica Hickey as Ashley Reefer opened the successful Flat Tire Co. Bike Shop in downtown Greensburg in 2016. We often are asked if DGP is a non-profit and no we are not. We chose to be a business and parter with the many wonderful organizations in Greensburg instead.

Over the last 4 years, DGP has grown and evolved into a content creation and event production company, without losing sight of what the organization was created for in the first place. We have made it a point to promote businesses in the Greensburg area that fall in line with our mission, ethics and goals. We’ve also produced a variety of events like networking nights, art exhibitions, Sunday funday food truck rallies, yoga on top of the Bell parking garage, night markets and Greensburg Craft Beer Week. In 2018, DGP became the head of Luminary Night, which this winter will be celebrating 50 years on Thursday, December 5th.

Greensburg has this amazing potential and we want to help see it happen. In the last few months we’ve seen some amazing changes and development. To us, the potential we saw 4 years ago, is starting to show and there’s even more things that will be happening that we can’t even announce yet!

So what is up next with us? Well we’ve been very busy this year with our clients (we have a marketing agency where we offer web development, branding and consulting to small and medium sized companies), our growing internship program and the multiple events we produce. But we’re in the process of finding our first downtown Greensburg office that we hope to move into by the end of 2019 and are already planning some exciting things for 2020! Not only that but our Greensburg business directory will be relaunched along with some branding and website changes to better serve the community!

Whether it’s writing up an article about the best places to patio drink, announcing a new development project, hosting an event or even helping a new boutique find the perfect store front. DGP believes that Greensburg is quickly on the rise and we’re here every step of the way to tell you what’s happening and to help make it happen.

So we want to thank YOU! The wonderful community of Greensburg for embracing us, helping us grow and supporting what we do! We’ve seen the community change and come together in the last few years and it’s exciting to see how Greensburg, not only as a community but as a City, is evolving into a great place to live, work and play!
