Greensburg Salem School District Partners with Shop Greensburg for Student Art Auction

The Greensburg Salem School District is pleased  to announce its collaboration with the Shop Greensburg/Greensburg Business and Professional Association to host a student art auction, where all proceeds will support the District’s Giving Tree Project and High School Art Club.

Throughout the month of March, downtown businesses will display student designed  artistic chairs on which people may bid. Proceeds from the auction will support two great causes. The first is the Giving Tree Project, a charitable cause sponsored by Greensburg  Salem students and staff to purchase holiday presents for students who are less fortunate.  The second cause is the Greensburg Salem H.S. Art Club. Funds will be used for art field  trips, supplies, and exhibition opportunities for students.

“Our community of student-artists at Greensburg Salem is something very special,” said Darryl Audia, Greensburg Salem High School Art Teacher. “We have a  long-standing tradition of excellence in the visual arts and a culture of community and  selflessness, built by the art teachers and students long before us, which is still alive and well  today. The artistic chairs donated by our painting students are a prime example of this. Most  kids would not be open to spending almost a month making something like this only to donate  it to a charitable cause, but these young people are the exception. Our students at GS are  talented, innovative, passionate, and kind…they will do great things.”

Greensburg Salem High School student artists collaborated in creating the artistic chair designs, researching and planning their chair theme, and painting their chairs. Chair themes include pop art, nature, fantasy, abstraction, Pittsburgh landmarks, and more. Chairs will be on display in the following downtown businesses beginning March 1 through March 31:

  • Scott Electric Lighting Gallery
  • Beeghly and Company Jewelers
  • The Shepherd’s Keeper at Kinderhook
  • Petagogy
  • Mancuso’s
  • McFeely’s Gourmet Chocolate
  • Penelope’s Gifts & More
  • Crossroads Boutique
  • Artisans of Hands and Heart

“We’re excited to parter to Greensburg Salem School District and the art department,” said Amy Beeghly, President of Shop Greensburg. “Wer’re looking forward to this fun and unique event that involves local students.”

Bidding begins at $20, with a ‘Buy Now’ option of $150.00. All bids must be placed online  via the following link: https://www.32auctions.com/gshschairs. There will also be a QR  code displayed at the businesses listed above for visitors who want to bid on the chairs.

“Our partnership with Shop Greenburg is just one example of our many community partnerships that allow us to enhance and expand our students’ learning experience,” said Ashley Kertes, Associate Administrator to the Superintendent & Community  Outreach “We look forward to sharing the work of our talented student artists with the Greensburg  community while supporting the businesses who shape it.”

The Greensburg Salem High School Art Department is committed to providing all students  with rich opportunities to study, create, exhibit, discuss, and reflect upon their artwork and  the work of others. The department strives to build community relationships with local  businesses, non-profits, and institutions. Its vision is to demonstrate the relevance of the  arts in all of our lives.
