Greensburg Community Days will take on a different look and feel for 2024 with the Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department partnering with the City of Greensburg Recreation Department and the Downtown Greensburg Project for the 3 day event held May 23-25.
The weekend will kick off on Thursday, May 23 on in downtown Greensburg at the Greensburg Night Market from 5:30-9:00pm. 130+ vendors will line 4 blocks of South Pennsylvania Avenue along with 4 live bands, a DJ and other activities during the May night market.
“We had already set the date of May 23 for the night market,” said Jessica Hickey, owner of the Downtown Greensburg Project. “So it’s perfect that it is lining up with this new community days format. We’re looking forward to partnering with the fire department and recreation department to create something a little different than the previous community days. Having the first night downtown will allow attendees of the night market to not only support the vendors but also the many great small businesses, bars and restaurants.”
Friday, May 24 will consist of a Kid’s Night Event produced by the Greensburg Recreation Department at Kirk S. Nevin Arena from 3-8pm. Carnival games, inflatables, face painting, and character visits will be happening during the Kid’s Night along with many food vendors, Kona Ice and the Rink Snack Bar.
“The idea is for the rec department event to have a kid focused event for 5 hours,” said Lydia Kinkaid, Recreation Program Manager. “We’ll have plenty of inflatables, bounce houses, slides and a bunch of other activities for kids to enjoy and have a great time.”
Saturday, May 25 will cap the weekend with the Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department’s ‘Party in the Park’ at Lynch Field which will have food and craft vendors, an afternoon car show and their annual ‘Battle of the Barrel’ event.
Live music will be happening throughout the day with Cashout and The Andy Davis Band ending the night. Lastly, fireworks will light up the sky at Lynch Field to finish off the 3 day event.
“We’ve hosted a Party in the Park for the last couple of years instead of the City throwing the full Community Days due to covid, event funding and rink renovations,” said Tom Bell, Greensburg Fire Department Chief. “Now with the new format this year we’ve moved the party to Lynch Field so we could add fireworks to end the weekend.”
